Lectio Divina - Reading Sacred Scipture

Lectio Divina for Lent

Lectio Divina will continue on the following dates during lent: Thursday 18th & 25th of February, Thursday the 3rd & 10th of March, and Tuesday the 15th of March at 11:00am in Mission House, Presbytery no. 1, just behind the Church. Lectio Divina is a traditional way of praying the scriptures so that the Word of God may penetrate our hearts and that we grow in an intimate relationship with the Lord. The bible is the Word of God which is alive and active, always new and it enables us to delve deeper into our faith. Come and journey with us through lent as we reflect on what the scriptures are saying to us. Looking forward to seeing you there. All are welcome.

christmas 2015

Christmas 2015.

On the threshold of the great Feast of Christmas, and as I mark my first Christmas in Cabra West, I take this opportunity to look back with deep gratitude and forward with hope. I thank you all sincerely for your warm welcome to me as I arrived here in September. Over the last four months I have seen at first hand what a great parish this really is. It has been a busy few months, but made easier by all who do so much behind the scenes to help whenever needed. I won't mention names, just in case I leave someone out, but you all know who you are. The parish would be lost without you. What has most impressed me has been the fact that so many just get on with what needs to be done, they see a gap, or something that needs renewing and just do it. Please continue your great work!

I am conscious that there are many families in the parish who will have an empty chair at the Christmas Table this year. Please be assured that I will remember all your loved ones who have died in my Masses at Christmas. They live near us transfigured by the love of God.

On December 8th Pope Francis ushered in the great Holy Year of Mercy. This is a chance for all of us to really live mercy in our daily lives. Mercy begins inside each one of us. Please join us on Monday evening at 7.30pm for our Christmas Penitential Service, as we together express sorrow for our sins, and receive the forgiveness of God. Visiting Confessors will be in attendance.

Sincere thanks to all those who made the Christmas Carol Service such a success last Tuesday evening. It was great to have the participation of all our schools along with our own parish choirs. There was a wonderful atmosphere in the Church, made extra memorable by our 'Live' Crib', with baby Max, and Susie the three day old lamb!

Christmas is an opportunity for us all to become young again no matter what age we are. We are all invited to kneel before the Crib and to see in that baby the God who made himself small so that we could share His life. That baby has a question to ask us. 'Will you continue to be my witnesses in the Society in which you live, will you be my hands and heart to those who are most in need'?

On my own behalf and on behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council, I wish you and your families every blessing and good wishes at Christmas, and health and happiness throughout 2016.

Fr Michael
